’90s hair accessories are back with a vengeance.
First came the scrunchie, which returned in full force in 2017 on Mansur Gavriel’s runway. Now, the decade’s most cringe-inducing clips, bands and pins are cropping up all over New York Fashion Week — and we’re surprisingly glad to see them. Here, the best of the bunch.
Blame/thank . . . Alexander Wang.
Clip tips: Wang had hairstylist Guido Palau wrap hulking metal clips around giant, slicked-back buns. Retro wet-look hair gel not included.
Perfect for . . . growing out your ’90s- and Bella Hadid-inspired lob.
Who’s behind this? Prabal Gurung.
Last spotted: Inducing headaches in several Mary-Kate and Ashley movies.
The comeback: The stretchy, spoked bands smoothed back yoga-inspired updos by Anthony Turner.
Best worn . . . while lounging in an infrared sauna, hair pulled tightly away from your face.
Revived by: Tom Ford.
Wrap stars: Thick leather and glitter headbands covered every head at the American designer’s show, where hairstylist Orlando Pita melded ’60s mod with ’80s athleticism and ’90s grunge.
Snag one for: Sleepy Sundays. Pair with an Outdoor Voices crop top for that studio-to-Sweetgreen style.
Brought back by: Jonathan Simkhai.
All choked up: Everyone’s favorite early Nirvana-era necklace rose from the dead, trended, then fell back out of favor — until stylist Odile Gilbert used the thin elastic bands to tie down hair.
Handy for: when your favorite turtleneck’s in the wash.
